Johann David Herlicius
Johann David Herlicius (buried November 30, 1693 in Eisenach ) was a German painter .
Life
Herlicius had probably studied painting with the Eisenach court painter and councilor August Erich from around 1664 and was then a painter at the court of Duke Johann Georg I of Saxony-Eisenach .
Herlicius owes his fame, which continues to this day, to the painting by Johann Ambrosius Bach attributed to him . The only painting by Johann Sebastian Bach 's father was in the possession of Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and is now part of the holdings of the Berlin State Library . The painting is on permanent loan in the Leipzig Bach Archive . For the Eisenach hymn book from 1673, which was used both in church and in school during Bach's time, Herlicius made the templates for twelve copper engravings, among others. a. with an interior view of the George Church at that time . A copy of the hymn book is on display in the Bachhaus Eisenach .
