Johann Eckard Löffler
Johann Eckard Löffler (* in Treysa , Hessen-Nassau ; † after 1680 in Cologne ; also Johann Eckhard Löffler , Joes Eckart Löffler and "Joan Eckart Löffler") was a German engraver and etcher .
After his younger brother, the engraver Johann Heinrich Löffler (* around 1615; † after 1683) called his works "Löffler junior" to distinguish them, Johann Eckard is also called "the elder". He himself signed his pictures with “JEL” or “IEL”, “EL” and “L” or “Löffler senior” or “Joes Eckart Löffler fecit” or “Joan Eckart Löffler fecit”. His activity in Cologne began in 1630 and lasted until 1675.
Works
Several emblematic views from the Thesaurus philopoliticus, such as the Ronneburg near Büdingen and Bartenstein Castle in Lower Franconia.
Thesaurus philopoliticus
Johann Eckard Löffler worked, among other things, in Frankfurt am Main for Eberhard Kieser , who ran a publishing business there, in which, together with Daniel Meisner , he published a collection of copperplate engravings with city views from the then known world under the title Thesaurus philopoliticus , German title Politisches Treasure chest .
Flores Seraphici
In the years 1640 and 1642 the two volumes "Flores Seraphici" were created with 723 legendary biographies of Capuchins who lived between around 1525 and 1612. The biographies were written by the Capuchin Charles d'Arenberg (* 1593; † 1669), a son of the Prince of Arenberg and Saint-Empire, Charles de Ligne on the basis of the "Annales Ordinis Minorum Capucinorum" by Boverius (Lyon, 1632). The more than 180 full-page copper engravings, on which, among other things, described miracles are depicted, are considered the most extensive work of the brothers Johann Heinrich and Johann Eckard Löffler. The illustrations were designed by Johannes Schot (also Schott) from Friedberg in Hesse.
