Johann Emil Müry
Johann Emil Müry (born April 22, 1843 in Basel ; † May 9, 1923 ibid) was a Swiss entrepreneur and politician ( FDP and civil and commercial party ).
Life
Müry attended the Realgymnasium Basel and then did a commercial apprenticeship in Basel. From 1870 he belonged to the guild of winemakers , where he was master from 1887 to 1923. In 1871 he entered a hardware store, which he took over in 1882 and became Müry & Cie. expanded.
From 1881 to 1899 he was a liberal (FDP) member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt . From 1887 to 1895 he was a member of the Basel civil court. After the parliamentary elections in 1902 he was a member of the National Council until 1911 , where he was temporarily President of the Alcohol Commission. From 1903 to 1916 he was a member of the appellate court. From 1907 he was a member of the Church Synod and later the Church Council. After the National Council election in 1911, he resigned from the liberal party because the young liberals had opposed his re-election. Under pressure from the FDP, he resigned his mandate and joined the civil and industrial party . From 1897 to 1918 he was also a member of the Enger Bürgerrat of Basel-Stadt; from 1917 to 1918 he was president of this council. Müry was also President of the Christoph Merian Foundation .
