Johann Evangelist Hafner

Johann Evangelist Hafner (born May 17, 1963 in Rain am Lech ) is a German Catholic theologian , religious scholar and philosopher who is known, among other things, for his research approach based on Niklas Luhmann's system theory. He is a professor at the University of Potsdam .

Life

Hafner grew up in a Christian family home; Both father Johann (1934–2017, headmaster) and mother Rosa (1936–2008) were educators. After graduating from high school, Johann Evangelist Hafner studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the University of Augsburg , at the University of Munich and at the University of Vigan ( Philippines ) from 1982 to 1988 . From 1990 to 2002 he was assistant at the chair for pastoral theology at the University of Augsburg. During this time he was visiting lecturer for systematic theology at the University of Dayton / USA (1996/97) and took on teaching positions at the University of Eichstätt (1998 to 2001).

In 1995 he received his PhD in philosophy . 2001 followed the habilitation in fundamental theology (systematic theology). Since 2005 he has been a part-time permanent deacon .

Hafner has been Professor of Religious Studies with a focus on Christianity at the University of Potsdam since 2004. His work focuses on systems theory , Christianity as a religion, angelology and environmental ethics . In 2007 Hafner took over the chairmanship of the examination boards for religious studies and LER ( Lifestyle, Ethics and Religious Studies ). In addition, Hafner was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Potsdam from 2010 to 2014.

Hafner is married and has three children.
