Johann Giefing

Johann Giefing (born April 13, 1953 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and municipal secretary. From 2003 to 2008 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council delegated by the Lower Austria state parliament and from 1984 to the beginning of 2019 mayor of the market town of Schwarzenbach .

education and profession

Giefing attended elementary school in Schwarzenbach from 1960 to 1965 and then switched to secondary school in Neudörfl (Burgenland) from 1965 to 1969. He then graduated from business school in Mödling and Wiener Neustadt between 1969 and 1971 and worked as a commercial clerk from 1971 to 1974. Between June 1972 and November 1972 he also did his military service in large mediums . 1974 Griefing joined the community of Schwarzenbach, where he found employment as a community secretary.

Politics and functions

Giefing was elected deputy mayor of the market town of Schwarzenbach in 1982 and held this office until 1984. In 1984 he was elected mayor of the market town of Schwarzenbach for the first time as the successor to Karl Eisinger. In the local council election 2010 he and his party, the Social Democratic Party of Austria, achieved 73.4% of the valid votes, which was a slight plus compared to the local council elections in 2005.

Within the party, Giefing has been a member of the District Party Committee of the SPÖ Wiener Neustadt since 1971; he was also elected a member of the District Party Board of the SPÖ Wiener Neustadt in 1995 and has been a member of the State Party Board of the SPÖ Lower Austria since 1988. Furthermore, he worked from 1985 to 1995 as a councilor of the district chamber of farmers Wiener Neustadt. Since 1982 he has also been a board member of the Central Burgenland wastewater association.

Giefing was from April 24, 2003 to April 9, 2008 a member of the Austrian Federal Council, where he represented the SPÖ Lower Austria . He was chairman or deputy chairman of the justice committee in the Federal Council, deputy chairman of the justice committee, secretary in the committee of rules of procedure, member of the finance committee, member of the health committee, member of the national defense committee and member of the committee for agriculture, forestry and water management.

In December 2018, he announced his resignation as Mayor of Schwarzenbach. The handover took place on January 7th, 2019, successor was the executive councilor Bernd Rehberger.
