Johann Gottfried Tamitius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Gottfried Tamitius , also Damitius († before November 27, 1741 ), was a German organ builder.

Life

His father was the Dresden court organ builder Andreas Tamitius (1633–1700). Johann Gottfried Tamitius worked at the St. Nikolai Church in Cottbus (upper church). Between 1738 and 1740 he repaired and changed the original organ, but did not finish his work. It was noted: From February 27, 1738 to January 1741, there was again a lot of repairs. It lasted so long because the organ builder Damitius was ailing and died. The organ could not be played in June 1742 either, as the organist complained. His brother was the well-known organ builder Johann Gottlieb Tamitius (1691–1769).
