Johann Gottlieb Ferdinand Frick (* 1809 in Berlin ; † May 21, 1880 there ) was a German history , genre and portrait painter .

Life

Biographical information on Johann Gottlieb Ferdinand Frick can only be found sporadically. A study of painting at the Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin can be proven for the period before 1826 to after 1832 . Frick was a student of the court painter and gallery inspector Wilhelm Ternite there . Between 1826 and 1856 he took part in the Berlin Academy exhibition, mainly with genre paintings.

A stay in Paris and an apprenticeship in Paul Delaroche's studio can still be verified from around 1836 to after 1845 . There Frick also took part in the exhibitions of the Paris Salon in 1839 . However, about a decade of his artistic career remains unclear. For it was only from 1856 and until 1879 that Frick was repeatedly proven to be a history painter in Berlin.
