Johann Gottlieb Kugelann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Gottlieb Kugelann (often misspelled as Kugelmann) (born January 2, 1753 in Königsberg , † September 8, 1815 in Osterode in East Prussia ) was a German pharmacist in Osterode, botanist and entomologist specializing in beetles.

His collection went to Professor Hoffmann, who was related to him in Warsaw. In 1920 remains or parts of the collection are said to have been in the University Library in Warsaw; the beetles were not given any location information.

A manuscript about beetles in East Prussia was completed by Johann Karl Wilhelm Illiger . A second part of the manuscript that Kugelann had sent to Johann Christian Ludwig Hellwig after Illiger's departure from Braunschweig to Berlin (“Eleuterata Prussica or directory of the beetles discovered in some areas of Prussia so far”) was not published; it later found its way into the library of the Berlin Zoological Museum.

His second son, Johann Fabricius Kugelann (named after the famous entomologist Johann Christian Fabricius ), later became a pharmacist in Tapiau in East Prussia.
