Johann Heinrich Hartmann (carpenter)
Johann Heinrich Hartmann (March 1, 1828 ; † 1908 ) was a Swiss carpenter .
life and work
Johann Heinrich Hartmann grew up in Basel and completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He spent his journeyman time in Paris, among other places . In 1854 he founded a furniture company in Basel, which was closed again a year after his death. In 1887/88 he was the first president of the Association of Swiss Master Carpenters and Furniture Manufacturers (VSSM).
1878–1882 he created a replica of the council table of Johann Christian Frisch , which he showed in 1883 at the national exhibition in Zurich. In 1964 the table was bought by the canton of Basel-Stadt and has been in the town hall in the anteroom of the government council since then. Further works by Hartmann are in private hands.
