Johann Hertze (* before 1420; † 1476) was a German legal scholar and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck .

Life

Johann Hertze, son of a citizen of Lübeck, studied law in Rostock since 1420. From 1433 to 1435 Hertze was the administrator of Lübeck's interests at the Pope's court. As a master's degree he was in 1436 after the death of his predecessor Paulus Oldenborch on a legation trip in Kalmar council secretary as protonotary in Lübeck until his resignation in 1454. Hertze was councilor in Lübeck from 1460 to 1476. As a chronicler, he was the author of part of the Luebian Ratschronik (section up to 1469); The Latin " Chronica novella " by Hermann Korner served him as a template for the first time . Hertze is one of the co-founders of the Marientiden Chapel of the Marienkirche in Lübeck and has been a member of the patrician circle society in Lübeck since 1465 . He lived in the house at Königstrasse 4 in Lübeck.

The mayor of Lübeck, Johann Hertze, was his son.
