Johann I of Montfort
John I of Montfort († before April 1249 in Cyprus) was a count of Montfort-l'Amaury . He was a son of Count Amalrich VII von Montfort and his wife Beatrix von Viennois.
Johann succeeded his father, who died in 1241, as a count. In 1248 he took part in the Sixth Crusade under King Louis IX. from France to Egypt . He died while the army was wintering in Cyprus in the spring of 1249. His remains were brought back home and buried in the monastery of Hautes-Bruyères .
Since March 1248 Johann was married to Johanna von Châteaudun, mistress of Château-du-Loir, a daughter of the Vice-Count Gottfried VI. from Châteaudun . The couple had a daughter:
- Beatrix († 1311); ⚭ 1260 with Count Robert IV von Dreux
His widow later married John of Akkon († 1296), a son of John of Brienne , King of Jerusalem .
