Johann Jakob Gächter

Johann Jakob Gächter (born September 22, 1833 in Oberriet , † July 29, 1905 in Altstätten ) was a Swiss politician .

Life

Gächter was born on September 22, 1833 as the eldest son of Jakob Gächter (then a farmer and councilor) from Eichenwies and Maria Martha Lüchinger from Montlingen. He trained as a businessman and initially worked as a teacher in Eichenwies. After his marriage to Anna Maria Hongler in 1860, he moved to Altstätten, where he became the host of the Felsenburg (Kugelgasse). At the turn of the century he was president of the court in Altstätten. In addition to this office, he was elected to the National Council (Catholic Conservative) for the constituency of St. Gallen-Nordost in 1899 , where he remained until his death in 1905.
