Johann Lindt (bookbinder)

Johann Lindt (born December 2, 1899 ; † 1977 ) was a Swiss bookbinder , restorer and non-fiction author .

Lindt worked independently as a bookbinder before he found a job in the City and University Library of Bern in 1937 , where he became a restorer in 1952 and a librarian in 1964. In his publications, Lindt dealt with the history of books in the city and canton of Bern . His most widespread work is The paper-mills of Berne and their watermarks, 1465-1859, first published in 1964 and translated into English . In 1973 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bern for his research on binding and watermarks .

His estate is in the Münstergasse library (fragments of old prints) and in the Bern Burger Library (book printer history, watermark collection, publications).
