Johann Ludwig of Virmont

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Ludwig Ambrosius von Virmont zu Neersen (* December 13, 1710 ; † after 1714 / before 1730) was a nobleman from the Lower Rhine noble family Virmond-Neersen .

Life

He was the younger son of Count Ambrosius Franz von Virmont zu Neersen and his first wife Eleonore Magdalena Wilhelmina von Bentheim-Tecklenburg-Steinfurt. His godfather was the Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz .

The time and circumstances of his death are unclear. The legend goes that when he was playing hide and seek with other children in the spacious Neersen Castle , he hid himself in a remote corner in an empty chest, the lid of which fell into the lock above him, making the chest the poor boy's coffin. Another legend tells that later only a heap of stones was found in his coffin and that the boy himself was dragged to one side.

It is noticeable that in the parish registers of Anrath the day of his birth and baptism can be found, but no note of his death. He is also not mentioned on the monumental tombstone of the family crypt in the church of the Minorite monastery in Neersen . Only a receipt for ten Reichstaler for masses , issued in 1730 by the Guardian of the Minorite Monastery , Fortunatus Decker, can be found as evidence of his death.

Since his older brother Joseph Damian (* 1707) also died childless in 1730, the last line of the von Virmond family died out with the death of his father in 1744 .
