Johann Müller (goldsmith)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Müller , also Johann Miller (* around 1420/1425 in Augsburg ; † around 1498/1509 there) was a goldsmith from Augsburg.

From 1465 Müller was the caretaker of the Hirnschen Seelgerät and from 1476 a member of the Münzerhausgenossenschaft. After his marriage he was self-employed from 1446 and at that time he was already paying taxes on a fortune of 420  florins , which rose to 900 florins by 1472. Müller was one of the richest goldsmiths in Augsburg in the 1470s. From 1454 to 1484 he owned a house on the "lower Metzg" (Waldburg fiefdom). In 1470 he created a silver monstrance for St. Moritz and the oldest documented goldsmith's work of the late Gothic in Augsburg. From 1480 his fortune steadily decreased. Several of his descendants were also goldsmiths. However, his son Matthäus († 1492/94) died before him.
