Johann Melchior Wichartz

Johann Melchior Wichartz (* 1694 in Brilon ; † February 17, 1776 ibid) was tradesmen and mayor in Brilon.

Life

Wichartz (also mentioned as Melchior Wichartz or Wigartz) was the son of Brilon's mayor Albert Wichartz . He was elected a total of four times in 1747, 1751, 1754 and 1757.

Wichartz was, among other things, the owner of a charcoal factory, in 1753 his Köhler Reuter 147 loads of charcoal were produced.

He was married to Christina Margaretha Schladoth (1698–1775). The marriage was childless, so this branch of the Brilon trade family died out. Wichartz bequeathed part of his considerable fortune, 14,000 thalers (an enormous sum at the time) to the Minorites in Brilon, who were building the monastery church. Another part was given to those in need. His house in Derker Quarter was set up as a hospital .
