Johann Philipp Jung

Johann Philipp Jung (born March 22, 1677 in Darmstadt ; † September 26, 1750 there ) was a German librarian .

Life

Johann Philipp Jung was born in Darmstadt in 1677 as the son of the office registrar Johann Georg Jung. Since 1697 he has been in the Hessian service. He went through an official career typical of the time. In 1706 he became secret registry adjunct, 1716 secret registrar, 1718 secret and archive registrar, 1732 archivist and finally 1736 librarian and councilor. After Johann Hagenbusch's death , Landgrave Ernst Ludwig entrusted him with the management of the Darmstadt court library . During the tenure of his predecessor Hagenbusch, he began cataloging and reorganizing the book inventory for the first time in 1717/18. Jung was active part-time as organist in the castle church for decades.

Johann Philipp Jung died in Darmstadt in September 1750 at the age of 73.
