Johann Russenberg

Johann Russenberg (* in Cleve; † 1457 in Lübeck ) was a Lübeck merchant and councilor of the Hanseatic city.

Life

The merchant Johann Russenberg belonged to the corporation of mountain drivers in Lübeck. He was elected to the Lübeck council in 1426. From autumn 1427 and during 1428 he was the commander of the Lübeck fleet, which was at war with Denmark . For a time he was the town’s treasurer. Fehling quotes the old Lübeck council line about him "homo legalis et fidelis". In wills of Lübeck citizens he is mentioned more often as a documentary witness and as a guardian . Russenberg is said to have died at the age of 90.

He was married twice and lived in the property in Mengstrasse 2, which he had acquired in 1425, in a central location in the city.
