At the beginning of 1715 Johann Werner von Broich was elected lay judge, on February 23 of this year he joined the star guild, which formed the professional representation of the Aachen lay judges. His election was initially declared invalid because father and son could not be lay judges at the same time. However, the resignation of his then 80-year-old father removed concerns about the election. Between 1722 and 1746 Johann Werner was mayor a total of thirteen times, until 1728 in two-year alternation with Johann Theodor Richterich , then in two-year alternation with Alexander Theodor von Oliva .
