Johann Wilhelm Arndts

Johann Wilhelm Arndts (* 1710 in Arnsberg ; † 1771 ibid) was an official from the Electorate of Cologne , postmaster of the Imperial Post Office and the main founder of the Arnsberg Intelligence Journal .

Life

He was the son of Johann Kaspar Arndts and Eva Katharina (née Wegmann) . He himself married Katharina Wilhelmine Beatrix Freusberg in 1741 . From the marriage went Engelbert Franz Ignatz Wilhelm Arndt produced (1750-1819).

Arndts studied law and received his doctorate in Duisburg in 1735 . He entered the Kurkölner civil service. In 1728 he was appointed procurator . He later became court advisor to the elector of Cologne and was a learned advisor at the chancellery of the Duchy of Westphalia . He was also the Thurn and Taxis postmaster. As such, he was responsible for establishing regular mail traffic in the Duchy of Westphalia. In 1766 he was also instrumental in establishing the first printing company privileged by the sovereign, which published the Arnsberger Intellektivenblatt, the first regularly appearing newspaper in the duchy. Arndts acquired the majority of the Endorfer Hütte in 1756 .
