Johann Wilhelm Zollmann

Johann Wilhelm Zollmann (* May 1697 in Coburg ; † December 26, 1749 in Dresden ) was a German cartographer and geodesist .

Life

Johann Wilhelm was a son of the "princely Saxon secret council" Johann Ludwig Zollmann. From 1717 he studied “world wisdom” in Jena and in 1721 received his master's degree in the Faculty of Philosophy. He worked at various courts and finally came to Dresden, where he became a captain in the artillery corps in 1743.

Zollmann's most famous work is the “Complete Guide to Geodesy, or Practical Geometry. Everything collected from my own experience and set up by JW Zollmann. With the necessary copperplate and a preface by Christian Wolfs ”. In six chapters, the entire field measurement including the necessary equipment is dealt with up to the production of topographic maps.

His brothers Friedrich Zollmann and Philipp Heinrich Zollmann were also cartographers.
