from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johanna von Merode zu Schloßberg (*?; † 1532 ) was the daughter of Gilles (Aegidius) von Merode zu Schloßberg , her mother Beatrix von Birgel, her father's second wife. Johanna was the wife of Vincent von Efferen .

She was the mistress of the lordship and Castle Stolberg and from 1518 sole mistress of the castle. Their marriage resulted in five children: Anna von Efferen, who married Johann von Dobbelstein, Hieronymus von Efferen , the husband of Anna von Nesselrode . The third child was Wilhelm von Efferen, whose first marriage was to Beatrix Schall von Bell and his second marriage to Anna von Metternich. Regina von Efferen, the fourth child, became Prioress von Heinsberg. The fifth child was Vincent von Efferen, who remained unmarried.

After the death of her husband, Johanna took control of Stolberg. There are documents dated February 8th and April 24th, 1525 that bear their seal. At that time Stolberg did not yet have its own jury.

Johanna died in 1532 and was buried in the chapel of Stolberg Castle. She bequeathed the Stolberg fiefdom to her son Hieronymus von Efferen.

The Worms prince-bishop Wilhelm von Efferen was her grandson.
