Johannes-Nepomuk-Statue (Perchtoldsdorf, Hochstraße 135)
The Johannes Nepomuk statue at Hochstrasse 135 in Perchtoldsdorf in Lower Austria is a representation of the saint in the Mödling district .
history
In the area of the intersection of Hochstraße and Scholaustraße in Perchtoldsdorf, a map made by Jean Baptist Brequin between 1754 and 1755 shows that there was a wayside shrine about whose fate nothing is known. A statue of Johannes Nepomuk was moved to its stand in 1883, which was previously located at a bridge over the Liesing drought in the area of the Hochstraße, where it was probably in the way of the construction of the Kaltenleutgender railway .
The new location later proved to be a traffic obstacle for the increasing road traffic. In the first quarter of the 20th century, the statue was moved into a specially built wall niche.
description
The depiction of Johannes Nepomuk that has come up here holds a palm frond in his right hand as a sign of death as a martyr . Above his head is the halo with the five stars.
The statue probably dates from the middle of the 18th century.
