Mammillaria guerreronis is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet guerreronis means 'from the location Guerrero, Zopilote-Canon, Careyon (Mexico)'.

description

Mammillaria guerreronis , forms groups with cylindrical, gray-green to light-green bodies. The trunks are up to 60 centimeters long and 6 centimeters in diameter. The warts are cylindrical in shape and have a watery milky sap . The axillae are covered with 15 to 20 short, white bristles. The 20 to 30 radial spines are 0.5 to 1 centimeter long and white. The 2 to 5  central spines (usually four) are straighter at the top, otherwise hooked and up to 2.5 inches long. The 1 centimeter long and large diameter flowers are red. The fruits are greenish-white, turning pink. The seeds are brown.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria guerreronis is native to the Mexican state of Guerrero and occurs at an altitude of 650 to 900 meters.

It was first described in 1932 as Neomammillaria guerreronis by Helia Bravo Hollis . Curt Backeberg introduced the species to Mammillaria in 1936 .

Neomammillaria guerreronis Bravo (1933), Mammillaria guerreronis var. Recta R.T. Craig (1945), Mammillaria zapilotensis R.T. Craig (1945), Mammillaria guerreronis var. Zapilotensis (RTCraig) Backeb. (1951) and Mammillaria guerreronis var. Subhamata R.T.Craig (1945, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 26. Ex. 2.).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
