Johannes-Theodor Wiemes

Johannes-Theodor Wiemes (born May 7, 1960 ) is principal horn player in the Radio Philharmonic of the North German Radio .

Wiemes began taking horn lessons at the age of twelve under the direction of Otto Harm from the “Niederrheinische Sinfoniker” (Mönchengladbach). The first successes came a few years later as part of the “ Jugend musiziert ” competition (1976–1982). After graduating from high school, he began studying mathematics, but after a short time moved to Aachen to study horn with Hiroshi Yamagishi and David Bryant.

After an internship as deputy principal horn player with the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne, he got his first job as an alternate horn player with the Oldenburg State Orchestra (1986–1988). As early as 1988 he received the position as principal horn player with the Radio Philharmonic of the North German Radio in Hanover. He is also a member of the Consortium Classicum, the Wind Soloists Hanover, the Arte Ensemble and the New Ensemble Hanover of the hgnm. He was also a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold (Münster department) and is involved in hunting horn training . He also volunteers in school education and gives the students a playful approach to music.
