Johannes Antonius Bakkers (also Juan Antonio Bakkers) (born December 5, 1897 in Nijmegen ; † November 10, 1962 in Blaricum ) was a self-taught draftsman, painter (mostly landscapes and still lifes) and sculptor of the early 20th century.

JA Bakkers lived and worked in Argentina from 1926 to 1929. Here he took the pseudonyms Juan Antonio (signed with Ju.An ), Juan Antonio Bakkers and Antonio . Numerous drawings, pastels, woodcuts and watercolors in the typical Art Deco style have survived from this period . Furthermore, from this period colored wood carvings (wall pictures as half-reliefs as well as free-standing sculptural figures) and terracotta works are known, also in the style of Art Deco.

After returning to the Netherlands, he married Johanna Spronk in 1930. The daughter Geurtje Margaretha Johanna emerged from this relationship. In 1931 he lived and worked in Eindhoven. He then moved into his studio in Amsterdam at Stadhouderskade 114b (reference: studio label). This was where his photorealistic phase began, motifs were mainly still lifes with a mystical background and depictions of fish in oil on canvas. Several paintings of this type from the 1940s / 50s as well as numerous Art Deco works (paintings, drawings, sculptures) are documented.
