Johannes Diks

John Diks (* 1953 in Emmerich ) is a former German local politician of the CDU . From 2004 to 2015 he was mayor of Emmerich.

Diks is a trained banker . He has been involved in the CDU since the 1980s. In 2004 and 2009, he won the election of Mayor of the city of Emmerich against the SPD candidate Peter Hinze with a clear majority in the first ballot . During Dik's tenure in 2006, the opening of what he called "the most beautiful Rhine promenade in the world" took place. Diks helped make this promenade one of the city's main attractions for day trippers. With the Stadtbild association , Diks also contributed to the fact that the Emmerich Rhine Bridge , the longest suspension bridge in Germany, has been illuminated since 2015 .

In the 2015 election, Diks lost to Hinze in the runoff; the challenger got 67.22%, the incumbent only 32.78%.

Until mid-2016, Diks managed the business of the Emmerich economic development and city marketing company on a voluntary basis. In July 2017 he started his own business as a real estate agent with a GmbH.
