Johannes E. Vecchi

Johannes Edmund Vecchi SDB (span. Juan Edmundo ) (born June 23, 1931 in Viedma ( Argentina ), † November 23, 2002 in Rome ) was an Argentine superior general of the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco .

Life

He was born to Italian emigrants. On January 29, 1947, he made his first vows as a Salesian of Don Bosco. After studying philosophical and theological studies in Turin, he was ordained a priest on July 1, 1958. First he was given the task of spiritual in the seminary of Fortín Mercedes before he was appointed director of the Salesian house in Viedma in 1965. From 1966 to 1970 he headed the training center for young Salesians in Viedma. In 1972 he was called to Turin to the General Administration of the Order. After the death of Don Aegidius Viganò , he took over the provisional leadership of the order and was finally elected on March 20, 1996 as the 8th successor to Don Johannes Bosco .
