Johannes Faesch

Johannes Faesch (born November 17, 1779 in Basel , † October 1, 1856 in Kiel ) was a Swiss merchant and citizen spokesman .

Faesch came from a family that can be traced back to the early 15th century. Johannes had three brothers: Emanuel (1778–1852), Andreas (1782–1815) and Balthasar (1784–1855). In 1809 he married Lucia Schreiber (1786–1846). He became the father of two sons, Karl Emil August and Eduard, and two daughters, Elisabeth and Adelheid.

Life

“Johannes Faesch set up shop in Kiel in 1806. From 1824 he belonged to the "College of 16 Men", the society of voluntary poor friends. He belonged to this until the dissolution of the city ordinance which took effect. He had left the company an inheritance of 5,000 marks. The interest on the inheritance should be used for needy youth. At the meeting of the Society of Voluntary Poor Friends of the City of Kiel on November 13, 1856, in recognition of Faesch's services, the city decided that this money should be administered and used under the name of the “Des blessed Johannes Faesch Foundation”. Faeschstrasse in Kiel is named after him. "
