A German textile company operated under Johannes Girmes & Co. in Oedt , Viersen district . It was founded in 1879 by Johannes Girmes (1854–1912), converted into a stock corporation in 1904 and a GmbH in 1943. In 1959 there was another conversion back into a stock corporation with the company Girmes-Werke AG . The company was one of the leading specialists in high-quality three-dimensional fabrics, but had to file for bankruptcy in 1989 .

In 2003 the successor company also became insolvent after the debts had grown to around 100 million euros. The insolvency administrator laid off 260 of 727 employees. In 2004 Tissavel bought the Girmes assets and subsequently reduced the number of employees to 50. In 2007, the majority of the production machines were sold to the Czech Republic .
