Johannes Meyer (actor)
Johannes Siegfred Meyer (born May 28, 1884 in Skodsborg , † November 4, 1972 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish actor .
Life
He made his debut in 1905 in Dagmarteatret in Copenhagen . In 1907 he joined the Folketeatret , to which he belonged until 1916. From 1916 he played at Det Ny Teater . From there he returned to Dagmarteatret in 1918 , where he remained a member of the ensemble until 1926. From 1941 to 1953 he performed regularly at the Det Kongelige Teater . He then gave guest performances at various theaters.
Meyer has worked in numerous films by renowned directors such as Carl Theodor Dreyer , Bodil Ipsen and Lau Lauritzen junior . In 1949 he was awarded the Bodil for best supporting actor in the film Støt står den danske sømand .
Meyer has been running the Regina cinema in Aarhus since 1953 and the Metropol in Copenhagen since 1960 .
In 1946 he was awarded the Dannebrogden and in 1950 the Dannebrogordenens Hæderstegn , a silver cross for the Dannebrogs, for special services in art.
In 1955 he was awarded the Ingenio et arti medal ( Latin for: for spirit and art ) and in 1964 with the Grand Cross for the Dannebrogden. This makes him the most highly decorated actor in Denmark to this day (2012).
Meyer's grave is in Copenhagen's Vestre Kirkegård cemetery
