Friedrich Wilhelm Compe

Friedrich Wilhelm Compe (born August 28, 1751 in Hardegsen ; † June 21, 1827 in Schwarzenbek ) was a German-Danish bailiff and knight of the Dannebrog Order and Danebrogsman.

Life

He attended high school in Hildesheim for two years . Then he studied law at the University of Göttingen . In 1775 he became an auditor in the Koldingen office . In 1777 he passed his exam. In 1779 he was transferred to the Sternberg office . In 1780 he was clerk in the Neustadt am Rübenberge office , and in 1786 administrator of the Nienover office . In 1788 he became second official in the Ratzeburg office , in 1793 first official in the Schwarzenbek office . In 1811 he was appointed justice of the peace by the government of the Kingdom of Westphalia . In 1813 he became a member of the provisional government commission in the Duchy of Lauenburg . In 1815 he regulated affairs in the Principality of Hildesheim . The Duchy of Lauenburg came to Denmark in 1816 , but he remained in office in Schwarzenbek. He founded a school there in 1793, and there is now a street and school named after him. His sandstone tombstone is also there next to the St. Francis Church. His successor as bailiff was Friedrich Seestern-Pauly . Compe was a Freemason and had been an Illuminate since 1782.
