Johannes Runnenburg

Johannes Theodorus Runnenburg (born February 19, 1932 in Amsterdam ; † April 16, 2008 ) was a Dutch mathematician who dealt with mathematical probability theory.

Runnenburg received his doctorate in 1960 from Nicolaas Govert de Bruijn at the University of Amsterdam (On the Use of Markov Processes in One-server Waiting-time Problems and Renewal Theory). In 1960 he became lecturer for probability theory and analysis in Amsterdam and in 1962 professor. In 1997 he retired.

His doctoral students include Gijsbert de Leve , Wim Vervaat (1942–1996), Arie Hordijk , Laurens de Haan (1937), Guus Balkema (August Aimé Balkema) and Fred Steutel .
