Johannes Schiess (politician, 1649)

John Schiess (* 2. December 1649 in Herisau ; † 9. March 1722 in Herisau; heimatberechtigt in Herisau) was a Swiss mayor , bailiff and longtime member of the Small Council of the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johannes Schiess was a son of Hans Schiess, owner of the innkeeper of the Adler inn, mayor of the municipality and state witness, and Anna Tanner. In 1675 he married Elisabeth Hänzberger, daughter of Jost Hänzberger. He entered into a second marriage in 1687 with Anna Margaretha Etter, daughter of Hans Konrad Etter, district judge in Thurgau . From 1687 to 1698 he was mayor of Herisau. From 1698 to 1710 Ausserrhoder he officiated as regional cap master and from 1710 to 1712 as regional governor. He worked as governor in the Rhine Valley from 1712 to 1714. From 1716 to 1722 he was governor of Ausserrhoder.
