Johannes Schiess (politician, 1730)

Johannes Schiess (born December 16, 1730 in Herisau , † April 22, 1804 in Herisau; resident in Herisau) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur, mayor and member of the small council from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johannes Schiess was a son of Johannes Schiess, owner of the paper mill in the depths in Herisau, and Elisabeth Nänni. In 1753 he married Helena Regina Wettler, daughter of Hans Jakob Wettler von Rheineck . Schiess, he took over the paper mill built by his grandfather. He added a large bleach to this . He was from 1764 to 1781 councilor and from 1781 to 1796 municipality captain of Herisau. In 1776 he officiated as Ausserrhoder state mountaineer. From 1787 to 1791 he held the office of land major. From 1796 to 1798 he was a state ensign.
