John VI (Constantinople)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John VI , Greek Ιωάννης ΣΤ , was the patriarch of Constantinople (712–713 / 715).

Life

In 712, at the instigation of the new emperor Philippicus, John became patriarch of Constantinople in place of the deposed Cyrus . In that year a synod took place in Constantinople, which rejected the decisions of the Ecumenical Council of 680 and instead represented monotheletic positions. In 713, after Emperor Anastasios came to power, he wrote a letter to Pope Constantine in which he apologized for the resolutions of this synod.

There is no further news about him. In August 715, Germanos I became the next surviving patriarch.
