Life
His father, a country doctor, came from a family of farmers and textile workers in Dornbirn. His father's uncle, Otto Wohlgenannt, was one of the first victims of the Nazi era in Dornbirn. After he had expressed himself critically about the attack on Poland, he was reported, arrested and finally executed in the Flossenbürg concentration camp in 1942 for degrading military strength. The mother, the eldest daughter of a family of doctors, was a great-granddaughter of the Bregenzerwald farmer and poet Franz Michel Felder , who from 1839 to 1869 had a great impact in Schoppernau in addition to his career as a writer and as a social reformer. Franz Michel Willam (* 1894 in Schoppernau / Austria; † 1981 in Andelsbuch / Austria) was his great-uncle.
After completing school, he began to study medicine at the University of Innsbruck and the University of Vienna, but eventually switched to musical subjects. He studied IGP at the Feldkirch State Conservatory at the Innsbruck State Conservatory and at the Vienna University of Music and musicology at the University of Vienna. Piano with Géza Hegyi in Innsbruck and with Hans Udo Kreuels in Feldkirch, composition with Herbert Willi in Feldkirch and harmonics with Werner Schulze in Vienna.
In 1982 he married Roswitha Zincke. The connection resulted in three children. They spent 1982 to 1996 in Vienna, 1986 to 1995 in Vorarlberg, from 1995 until today in Groß Gerungs / Waldviertel and Vienna.
