Johanneskapelle (Waldershof)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Johanneskapelle is a small chapel in Waldershof in the northern Upper Palatinate . It was probably built in the 17th century; it is now a listed building.

History and description

The Johannes chapel in Waldershof is located west of the city center near the Waldershof Palace on the Kosseinebach. There is no evidence of the origin of the chapel, but since it belonged to the castle until 1934, it could have been built by a monastery judge. Based on the construction method and the building materials used, it is assumed that the Johanneskapelle was built in the 17th century.

The figure of St. John Nepomuk , which is said to have stood above the drain of the castle pond, is worth seeing . The chapel was first mentioned in writing in 1846 when it was endangered by flooding and threatened to be destroyed. In 1934 it was bought by the then market council from the castle owner because it was no longer possible for him to maintain the chapel.

On the front side there is a large cross in front of a tapestry, on the two walls on the right a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and on the left the Immaculate Heart of Mary .
