The Johannisstraße in Rostock is a street in the historic center of the Hanseatic city . It leads from Buchbinderstrasse in the west towards the northeast. With the stone road it is connected by a home run. The Kistenmacherstrasse coming from the north also ends at it .

Johannisstraße is named after the former Dominican monastery of St. Johannis , which was located south of it. The existence of this street was documented in 1288, a street near St. Johannis was first attested in 1419. The Johanniskloster also had some booths on the north side. After the Reformation , the monastery was closed and the monastery buildings were demolished in the 1830s.

Johannisstrasse, which had direct access to Steinstrasse in the historic Rostock road network, was completely destroyed in the nights of bombing at the end of April 1942.

Since the 1950s, a parking lot at the former main post office on the south side of the Neuer Markt has been reached via the north side of Johannisstrasse . There is also a parking lot on the northwest side between Buchbinderstrasse and Kistenmacherstrasse. The south side of Johannisstraße is determined by administrative buildings.

In 2005 a passage between Johannisstrasse and Steinstrasse was created for pedestrians. Coordinates: 54 ° 5 ′ 14.5 ″  N , 12 ° 8 ′ 23 ″  E
