Johannsen Rum (official company name: AHJohannsen ) is the oldest independent rum house in the rum city of Flensburg and one of the last of more than 200 rum houses in the city that closed or moved away in the 20th century. The rum house was founded in Flensburg in 1878 by the grandfather of the current company owner. The seat of the family business, including a shop, the Hökerei ( retail trade ), is located on Marienstraße in the so-called Marienburg , which is a stop on the Rum & Sugar Mile .

Product range

Despite the competition from large corporations, Johannsen Rum was able to assert itself in northern Germany and beyond. The product range has been expanded over time and ranges from rum to liqueurs , aquavit , rum pot and other products. A certain “in” factor and local patriotism are also helpful here. For example, the Rumhaus produces a liquorice- flavored liqueur called Swattes Swien ( Low German for black pig ), based on the legend of the Grönen Keel and the black pig . In addition, the “Regatta Rum”, which is also awarded as a prize, is produced for the annual rum regatta . The special bottling for the Museumshafen Flensburg consists of a Jamaica rum blend. The company's oldest rum brand is called 1878 , a 40% rum blend, which is named after the year it was founded.
