John B. Chambers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John B. Chambers (* 1956 ) is the deputy head of the Sovereign Debt Ratings Group and Chairman of the Sovereign Debt Committee at Standard and Poor's (S&P). Along with David T. Beers received Chambers worldwide attention in August 2011 for his role in the downgrading of the credit rating of US government debt from AAA to AA +. Since 1941, the United States of America has had the highest rating, AAA.

Chambers holds a Bachelor of Art in English Literature and Philosophy from Grinnell College (1977) and a Master of Art in English Literature from Columbia University . After five years in various positions at Banque Indosuez , he joined S&P in 1993. He became deputy head of the Sovereign Debt Ratings Group in 1997.

Critics of the US downgrade have proven to Standard and Poor's a $ 2,000 billion miscalculation and mockingly remark that the chief culprit Chambers did not even study economics.
