John Barden (* 1951 in County Longford ) is a folk singer and musician from Ireland who lives in Germany.

Career

His music career began at the age of eight as a soloist in the local boys' choir. At this time he also learned to play the banjo .

In 1972 he met Frank McLynn in Dublin , with whom he and Brian Flynn founded the group Greensleeves . With Barden as lead singer, Flynn as guitarist and McLynn on violin, they performed successfully in Germany, Ireland and Great Britain over the next few years. Their music was based on the zeitgeist of the popular folk club revival scene in Dublin at the time.

In the spring of 1988 Barden left the band to start his solo career. In 1994 he released his first CD, which contained his own songs as well as new recordings of old Irish folk songs.

In 1994 he met the violinist and bagpiper Keith Smith from Scotland , with whom he has worked since then. Their first CD was released in 1999. In 2016, the album Glad we are here was released , on which family members Bardens also participated.
