John Beavan, Baron Ardwick
John Cowburn Morgan Beavan, Baron Ardwick (born April 19, 1910 in Manchester , † August 18, 1994 in Wimbledon , London ) was a British journalist and politician.
Career
Beavan was a reporter for the Manchester Evening News . In 1943 he became its editor. Between 1946 and 1955 he was editor of The Guardian . He was political advisor to the Mirror Group and from 1960 to 1962 editor of the Daily Mirror .
He was a member of the Labor Party , was raised to Life Peer on January 16, 1970 as Baron Ardwick , of Barnes in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames , and thereby became a member of the House of Lords . From 1975 to 1979 he was also a member of the European Parliament .
He was married and had a daughter and an illegitimate son.
