Act

Blish patented the locking system on March 9, 1915 in the name of the arms manufacturer Auto-Ordnance Corporation and received shares in the company for it. Under the direction of John T. Thompson , the weapon was developed to series production and manufactured by Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company in 1921/1922 in 15,000 copies as the Thompson Model 1921 submachine gun with a blish lock. These weapons had a rate of fire of 800 rounds / min, since the US Navy classified this rate as too high, the weight of the control piece was increased to reduce the rate (picture), resulting in a rate of 600 rounds / min. lowered.

Blish also invented the Blish Sounding Tube , a tube used to measure water depth, and the Blish prism , a sextant attachment .

In 1943, the US Navy named a warship the USS John Blish in honor of Blish .
