John Bennett ( John Dale Bennett ; born November 14, 1930 in Grand Forks ) is a retired American long jumper .

In 1953 and 1954 he was starting NCAA champions for Marquette University , and in 1954 he was also US champions.

In 1955, with his personal best of 8.01 m, he won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico City , two centimeters behind his compatriot Rosslyn Range . He was also used as the final runner in the victorious US 4 x 100 meter relay.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , he also took silver with 7.68 m behind his compatriot Greg Bell (7.83 m) and in front of the Finn Jorma Valkama (7.48 m).
