John Joseph Bertrand (born March 22, 1956 in San Mateo ) is a former American sailor .

successes

John Bertrand took part in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the Finn-Dinghy boat class . He finished second with 37 points behind Russell Coutts , who got 34.7 points, and just ahead of Terry Neilson , who finished the regatta with 0.7 points more than Bertrand. At World Championships in 1976 in Kiel and 1977 in Cabo Frio , Bertrand won the title in the laser , as well as in 1978 in Manzanillo in the Finn dinghy. In addition, he won silver in the Finn in 1979 in Weymouth and 1980 in Auckland . In 1987 he was a participant in the Louis Vuitton Cup .

He should not be confused with the Australian sailor of the same name, ten years older than John Bertrand , who also won Olympic medals in the Finn-Dinghy boat class and celebrated World Cup successes.
