John Blund
John Blund (* approx. 1175 ; † 1248 ), also called Iohannes Blondus or Johannes Blund, was an English philosopher and scholastic . From 1227 he was in royal service and studied in Oxford and Paris . As a master of theology he was teaching at Oxford University at the same time as Edmund of Abingdon . He was a priest in Chichester before 1232, after which he was Archbishop of Canterbury for a short time from August 26, 1232 to June 1, 1233 . However, the choice was made by Pope Gregory IX. rejected, he was then appointed Chancellor of the University of York .
John Blund interpreted Aristotle 's De anima with recourse to Avicenna . In this text one has an early document of the reception and interpretation of the epistemology of Aristotle in the Middle Ages . From Maurice Powicke he was appointed as the "first English Aristotelian called".
A bilingual edition, Latin - German, of the work Tractatus de anima. The treatise on the soul was published as Volume 6 in the first series of the Herder Library of Medieval Philosophy .
