John Douglas Turner

John Douglas Turner (born July 15, 1938 in Glen Ridge - † October 26, 2019 ) was an American religious scholar .

Life

He earned a BD, Th.M., from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia in 1966 and a Ph.D. 1970 at Duke University . Since 1984 he has taught as Cotner Professor of Religious Studies and Charles J. Mach University Professor of Classics and History at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln .

He was known for his translations of the Nag Hammadi library. He contributed to research into the relationship between Neoplatonism and Gnosticism, including a study of the use of terms and concepts by the author or authors of the Sethian Allogenes text.
