John Evershed

John Evershed (born February 26, 1864 in Gomshall , Surrey , England, † November 17, 1956 in Ewhurst , Surrey, England) was a British astronomer. He was the first to observe the radial movement of sunspots , a phenomenon known as the Evershed effect (also known as the Evershed-Abetti effect , after Giorgio Abetti ).

Evershed was accepted as a member (" Fellow ") in the Royal Society in 1915 . In 1918 he was awarded the gold medal of the Royal Astronomical Society . The Evershed crater on the moon is named after him.
