Live and act

In the middle of the 17th century, Gottlieb Schröffl was the most influential man in the Innerberger Eisenwesen and in Steyr. He owed this outstanding position not only to his personal abilities, but also to the family ties to those families who came up in Steyr after the Counter-Reformation : his mother was the sister of the long-time head forerunner of the main trade union and mayor of Steyr, Cosman Mann v. Mannsperg, his brother-in-law was Maximilian v. Luckner, mayor and merchant of Steyr, whose sister with Georg v. Mittermayer, the most important wholesaler of the time, was married.

Gottlieb Schröffl became in 1643, three years after his uncle Cosman Mann, head forerunner of the Innerberg main union from the publishing member Steyr, a position that he held until 1660. At the same time, Gottlieb Schröffl was also mayor of Steyr from 1651 to 1659 . 1646, he received the knightly hereditary nobility , 1655, the predicate v. Mannsperg. In 1660 Schröfl was appointed iron chairman in Steyr for Austria above the Enns and below the Enns , which meant that the iron industry of these countries was subordinate to him . He held this office until his death.

The effectiveness of Schröffl falls at the time of the deepest decline of the Innerberg main trade union. External circumstances, but also the behavior of Schröffl, who played the wear and tear of steel into the hands of his relatives, deprived the union of its income and impoverished the trades, while the wholesalers did brilliant business.

Gottlieb Schröffl was married four times, 21 children came from the last three marriages.
